Edition3: Dont worry about 2012

The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of beliefs and proposals positing that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur in the year 2012. These beliefs are based primarily on what is said to be the end-date of the Mayan Long Count calendar, which is presented as lasting 5,125 years and as terminating on December 21, 2012. Proponents of these ideas base their beliefs on archaeoastronomical speculation, religious fanaticism, and alternative interpretations of mythology, numerological constructions, and alleged pro-phecies from
extraterrestrial beings.
A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Conversely, some believe that the 2012 date marks the beginning of an apocalypse. Both ideas have been disseminated in numerous books and TV documentaries, and have spread around the world through websites and discussion groups.
Mainstream Mayanist scholars argue that the idea that the Long Count calendar "ends" in 2012 misrepresents Maya history. To the modern Maya, 2012 is largely irrelevant, and classic Maya sources on the subject are scarce and contradictory, suggesting that there was little if any universal agreement among them about what, if anything, the date might mean.
The scientific community has rejected the 2012 predictions as pseudoscience, on the grounds that these events would violate the laws of physics and are precluded by astronomical observations
Why we should not fear 2012
Most information available about 2012 is making reference to mass destruction of the world as we know it, earth's pole shift/magnetic field reversal, Nostradamus predictions, end of Mayas calendar, etc.
The base of all the predictions is the end of the Maya calendar in 2012, which is supposed to mean the end of the world or a period of radical changes. In fact, the end of the Maya calendar is known as the end of the Great Cycle. People find it easy to believe in that theory because Maya civilization is known for advanced writing, mathematics and astronomy. It can seem like they really know what they're talking about, but the truth is that the end of the Great Cycle is not the end of the world, it's in fact a great celebration for the Mayas: There is no reason to worry as there are main five main reasons that 2012 myth is made up of Mayan Calendar (we have discarded that presumption) Galactic alignment Polar shift Collision of planet Nibru (hypothetical)
Webbot (Critics of these proposals argue that while the collective knowledge of humanity could possibly predict terrorist attacks, stock market crashes or other human-caused events, there is no way it could predict something like an earthquake or the end of the world)
The only rational “2012 End of world” possibility is actually pole shifting. A Pole shift is a rare phenomenon and is characterized by the north and the south poles swapping places. Such reversals, recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks, are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years; the last one was 780,000 years ago. Such event could really disrupt our planet that's true. Imagine the North pole and South pole swapping places: Tele-communications, animals, humans, etc. would all be affected and it would be a really important change. There's only one thing you need to consider… I've read in a lot of different places that a polar shift is going to happen on December 21 2012 and it is totally false: Polar shift is a process that roughly takes 5,000 years to complete and doesn't start on a specific date and time. The real truth is that nobody knows when the next one is due.
The process takes time and another myth wants the earth's magnetic field strength to be near zero during that transition time. It would actually be as strong as it is now but simply a lot more complicated.
Will I die on December 21 2012?
No one can tell, the Mayas can't, Nostradamus can't and the aliens can't. On December 21 2012, a comet won't hit the earth, a pole shift won't happen instantly and a massive gravity burst won't happen either. The only thing you can fear is a pole shift and it can take up to 5,000 years to complete…
What if you're wrong and world ends?
In the case that we are wrong, that every scientist on this planet is wrong and that the NASA can't figure out a simple galactic alignment that would put our world to an end then I guess we are all in the same situation. Everyone will die. Scary isn't it? Well, no one can tell what will happen tomorrow or in 2012.
2012 is big business
If you scan the Internet or believe that it is the marketing campaign behind the movie "2012," released in November, you might be forgiven for thinking so. Dozens of books and fake science Web sites are prophesying the arrival of doomsday that year, either by means of a rogue planet colliding with Earth or some other cataclysmic event. Normally, sober scientists regard incidents of Internet hysteria with nothing more than a raised eyebrow. But a few scientists have become so concerned that they decided not to remain silent.
Thus we decided to add our two pence…..
Hope you enjoyed reading on the 2012
