IP Theft Incidents Rising : CII

CII’s first Outreach Program on Intellectual Property Rights was launched recently at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. K Vijay Kumar, IPS, Director, National Police Academy in his Opening Remarks welcomed the move by Indian Industry to reach out to senior Police officers for Promotion of IPRs. He welcomed this move & stressed that it is the need of the hour. Prof. Veer Singh, Director, NALSAR, Hyderabad in his address outlined the legal preparedness of India to tackle Counterfeiting & Piracy. He elucidated with facts & figures on the alarming rate of Counterfeiting & Piracy in India and across the World. This was attended by Senior Police Officers from all over India.

CII was represented by its National Committee of IP Owners who have Prioritised “Anti Counterfeiting & Piracy” as the most important agenda for building a strong IPR Regime in India. Spurious Drugs, Counterfeit Spare Parts & Machinery, Counterfeit Currency Notes, Pirated Software & Music were some of the issues discussed. The Industry members gave an Insight to senior Police officers on the latest Anti Counterfeiting Technologies, Legal Remedies, Suo Motto Actions & fast Track redressal Mechanisms – The latest Smart Tools adopted by Industry to combat this menace.

This is an Offshoot of CII’ 4TH International Conference on Anti Counterfeiting & Piracy held at Mumbai on 19 & 20 August 2010 at Mumbai. This is the flagship event of CII attended by Industry, Enforcement agencies & Policy Makers from all over the world. The need to work closely with Enforcement agencies was one of the Important follow up action of the International conference. The IP Owners are leaving no stone unturned & making a Serious effort to tackle the Menace of Counterfeiting & Piracy!

Further to this, CII has planned a series of Initiatives in IPR for the Year 2010 -11.
