Speaking to reporters the tournament director Nitin Joshi , the trustee of Om Dalvi Memorial Umesh Dalvi and Chirag Dedia Director of City Blog said that the tournament will be a state ranking tournament in the Boys and Girls under 10 &12 events and Talent series and the Boys and Girls under 14 and 16 will be a talent series national ranking event. The tournament is being held under the auspices of the AITA and the MSLTA, they added.
Mr. Dedia said that the tournament will offer a total scholarship of Rs 50000 apart from trophies and certificates, the Purpose of this tournament is promoting talent in Pune. Tennis is a very popular sport. Being associated with schools and residential societies, Cityblog feels it can create brand awareness through such sporting events in Pune.
He added that the purpose of holding ranking tournament is to render mass appeal promoted by Cityblog. We want all citizens to participate in Cityblog movement. Thus open ranking tournament carries on that philosophy. We want more people to be part of Cityblog movement be it online blog or offline reading, discount coupons or sms alerts.
Mr. Joshi added that Deccan Gymkhana club used to organize all age group events once a year nearly a decade back and we are very happy to start this activity where we have events in all the junior events from under 10 to Under 16.
The tournament which is the last on the MSLTA calendar before the exam break has drawn over 400 entries from all over the state and India . Ms Vaishali Shekatkar has been appointed the AITA supervisor for the event , while Pravin Zite will be asst supervisor of the event. The qualifying rounds will be held on 26th and the 27th of February.
