Omkar, Chawla knock out top seeds, Ghare wins girls under 10 title at City Blog Open Tennis.

Pune, 3 March: Dakshita Omkar of Sangli, and Kanishka Chawla created the biggest upsets of the day as they knocked out top seeds in their events to enter the finals , while city girl Neha Ghare lifted the Girls under 10 title at the first ever CityBlog Open Junior National Ranking and state ranking tennis tournament organized jointly by Deccan Gymkhana and the Om Dalvi Memorial Foundation at the Deccan Gymkhana tennis courts.




Top seeded Pune girl Neha Ghare lifted the girls under 10 title outplaying second seeded Dnyanada Patil 7-2 .



In the semifinals played today Dakshita Omkar from Sangli who shifted her base to Pune upset top seeded Mumbai player Dnyanda Patil 8-1 to enter the girls under 12 finals, she will take on fifth seeded Malika Karmarkar of Pune who also upset third seeded Mumbai player Shivani Ingale 8-3 in the other semifinal.



In the Girls under 14 event left handed and fourth seeded Kanishka Chawla of Pune created the biggest upset as she upset top seeded Shirlee Deshmukh 6-4, 6-1, to enter the finals. However Kanishka was not so lucky in the Girls under 16 semifinals, seeded fourth in the event Kanishka was upset by unseeded Shrushti Das . The bespectacled Dass won 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in the toughest match of the day.



Third seeded Ved Bhandare created another upset as he outplayed second seeded Yash Lele 6-3, 6-3 to enter the boys under 14 finals. Fifth Harshal Rukhiyar continued his splendid run in the tournament accounting for third seeded Daren Periera 8-7, (7-5) to make it to the Boys under 10 finals.



The finals of all the events will be played tomorrow followed by the prize distribution.

Boys under 12: Ayush Prabhune ( S.1) bt Piyush Salelkar ( S.4) 9-2;

Sidhant Bhantia ( S.2) bt (S.8)Aditya Iyer 9-6;



Girls under 12:

Dakshita Omkar bt Dnyanda Patil ( S.1) 8-1;

Malika Karmarkar (S.5) bt Shivani Ingale (S.3) 8-3;
