Tex Mex of Aundh

Siddhi Mehta
Luscious food, a soothing ambience and quick service along with a tinge of available parking area make Polka Dots at Aundh the best recipe for a perfect restaurant. Being the first stand-alone eatery for world cuisine, it has made a prominent mark on the cuisine industry in Pune. This multi-cuisine restaurant offers south-east Asian, European, Mexican, Italian and of course Indian dishes along with sumptuous desserts, all under one roof. This 40-seater eatery is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and has an open kitchen and front view dessert and pastry counter.

The idea of customizing the authentic wooden tables with small lit modern style lamps adds to the exquisite beauty of the restaurant. The atmosphere around the hotel is fairly cool and natural, in absence of air conditioning. Its location is just right for a pleasant get-together with family and friends. The welcoming and affable service enhances the comprehensiveness of the eatery. The restro is invariably full at any time of the day. Different sets of people visit this restaurant during the day. Generally, mornings are filled with executives for a quick brunch; youth catch up over evening snacks and coolers and usually late evenings are spent by families and friends over a relaxed dinner. During weekends getting a table without reservation is just being lucky. One thing you should not miss at Polka Dots is their ‘Death by Chocolate’ and ‘Blue Berry Cheese Cake’ which simply melt in your mouth. Miss Ayesha Pradhan, a frequent visitor, confessed that at times she comes to Polka Dots only to enjoy the desserts here. The ‘Death by Chocolate’ is a chocolate cake surrounded in a pool of chocolate syrup. This contemporary style eatery arguably provides the best of Italian food in town. The pastas, the lasagnas, the risottos and the raviolis both in vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine are a foodie’s delight. The fresh Indian veggies mixed with Italian style sauces and garnishes with tempting and beautiful presentation of their food provide a customer the full value for money. Pushkar, a student and an Italian foodie, is thoroughly impressed by their pasta Alla Sorriso, where grilled chicken is succulently tackled with sundried tomatoes, along with chopped black and green olives and red pepper, mixed in white cheese sauce. The non-vegetarian highlight of the eatery is the grilled chicken breasts cooked in teriyaki sauce and served with steamed rice and a wasabi glaze. Another popular intercontinental dish is the Jamaican Pompret, fillets of black Pompret marinated in lime juice and olive oil, pan fried and served with warm spicy salsa sauce. A regular customer Miss Sonal, a college student stated that their starter, Jalapenos and Cheese Dynabites with ice tea acts as a refresher to sunny afternoons. One customer who had come all the way from Kothrud said that the service is pretty average and parking becomes difficult on weekends due to the narrow roads, but the delicious food more than compensates for all these drawbacks. All in all Polka Dots might lighten your pocket, but will satiate your taste buds and your stomachs with their zestful delicacies for sure.

  1. Pune is by all means the city of young, it is well known for its renowned colleges, Osho slippers and strawberry carts. It is here that crowds of students can be seen everywhere nipping on their bikes and finally lining up at buzzing nightclubs and other happening hang-out zones. icrave
