Liquor serving timing in various establishments are creating confusion in people’ mind, lack of coordination in police and state excise department is creating problems in city. This is also boosting illegal liquor serving after deadline at various places in city. And the liquor serving policy has remained up to moral policing.


"Night clubs and stared hotels are serving liquor and police are forcing other bar owners to shut down early. Isn't it injustice for the small owners and consumers?" This must be a question in liquor lovers' mind and permit room owners as well. "Isn't it is a discrimination to get permission till late nights and we have to follow up deadline to serve the liquor. There should be a proper guidelines and same rules to every one than moral policing," said Hotelier from Baner.

Difference in timing to serve liquor in various establishments like permit rooms and stared hotel is becoming moral policing issue. on one hand police is trying to maintain law and order and liquor is being served till late night at some places. Timings for the revenue cause by state excise department is exactly the opposite thing to police’s act.



Questions are rising by various citizens. As per the norms high court and depending on police, permit rooms and bars can serve liquor till midnight and maximum 12.30 am. But there are many permit rooms which serves liquor till late night beyond the timing. While talking about the same issue Rohan said “I frequent a few places in the city which serve alcohol way beyond deadlines. This is the major concern that needs to be dealt with."



"Drinking and driving is offence and police are taking strict actions on them and late night liquor serving at some places is increasing the number of accidents. So police should act strictly and there should be equal law where liquor is being served," Akshay Gupta said.



There are various bar owners who are also opposing the act of moral policing. "The difference between the timing to us and stared hotel is affecting our businesses. There should be equality in the timing. It is not the thing that the person who will consume liquor at five stars will behave in different manner than who drink in normal permits room," said one of the hoteliers from the Deccan area.



Many of citizens are against the shady places in the city and all other places. While talking about it Ganesh Rairikar said "I think illegal places serving alcohol need to be clamped down. It is mostly observed that they are the source of anti social activities. We can not stop people from consuming liquor but we can curb the source leading to anti social activities." While demanding the equality another hotelier said "police force us to close our bar on time but there are various places where bars serve beyond the timing, here we smell corruption."

While talking about the late night liquor serving Rakesh Madhukar said “I do understand the police's concern, but I strongly feel that the city has bigger concerns that need to be dealt with.”

When Cityblog reporter called various concern people it is observed that there is no proper knowledge about the timings of liquor to be served in permit rooms and pubs. Police inspector of one of the elite class locale said "The liquor serving concern is related to state excise department and we only follow the timing written on the licence given to them." but according to S.D.Phulpagar, Deputy Superintendent of excise department, 1.30 am is the limit till the liquor can be served. This not only highlights the lack of coordination between police department and state excise department but it raise the question of law and order regarding the same issue.



When Cityblog reporter talk to the president of hotel owners’ association he said “There is limit till 11.30 means at this time we can take last order and we have to wind up this till 12.30 so altimetry the deadline is 11.30.”

For example liquor shop have to get shop and establishment act license as well as license from state excise but according to state excise such shop owner can sell liquor till 1.30 am but according to Shop act license he can not sale liquor after 10.30.” Same licenses are also applied for the permit rooms, restaurants and stared hotels and addition to it licenses from the food department is necessary.
