Take simple effective measures for Pedestrians Safety:A real tribute to Activist Gita Vir on First Death Anniversary !
Dear Sir,
As all her colleagues and civic activists in Pune pay homage to Late Gita Vir on her first death anniversary we request you minimum to Take simple effective measures for Pedestrians Safety;since she died hitting the footpath blocks left negligently by contractors.
1.Let there be no obstruction/encroachment caused by PMC or any of its agencies/contractors on footpath.
i) Road construction/repair material left on footpath for weeks/months.
ii) Water/drainage pipes on footpath (Prabhat Road, vanaz company etc)
iii)Post laying/repair of utilities the debries,crete,khadi dumped-left on footpath( senapati bapat rd etc)
iv) Decorative street light poles erected by PMC on footpath ( Ghole rd/Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi ward office entrance etc)
v) Garbage Containers placed on footpath (Near Om Super Mkt,sahakarnagar etc)
vi)Arogya Kothi/ Labour huts on footpath
2.Trim regularly the trees,plants,bushes obstructing footpath.
3.keep the entry and exit on footpath free and convenient.
4.New footpaths are being built several locations at road level, on enquiry concerned PMC AMC(Sahakarnagar) said this helps park vehicles and gives more carriage way for vehicles.Mind set of the PMC officers needs to change - FOOTPATHS NECESSARILY MUST BE FOR PEDESTRIANS; CONVENIENT & SAFE.
5.Institutional encroachments/obstructions should be and can be dealt with on systemic levels e.g., Malls, Multplexes, Petrol Pumps, Garages, Cinema Halls, Shop Owners, Police, MSEDCL,BSNL,MOBILE Companies,PMPML,ST, etc.
6.Most of the busy junction footpaths are chmpered and missing , in fact its most required there for pedestrians safety .
7.Full frontage of property is kept open for entry/exit of vehicles endangering pedestrian movement-safety.Only one/two entrances be allowed.
8.Mukadam must record in his daily round and get the obstructions/encroachments removed. SI, DSI, Ward Officer must ensure the same.
9.Ward level ND Squad in coordination with Police should use jammers/levy fines for vehicles on footpaths.
10.Adequate budget provision be made to carry out necessary repairs of damaged footpaths.
11. Regular Awareness programes, exhibitions be held for citizens, pmc officers/employees, police, all sections of societies.

Sir, It is observed that in most of the accidents the pedestrians/cyclists who constitute app more than 50 % of local daily travel trips, suffer the most, as the right of way is denied to them.
Pl look into the matter positively and urgently for better PEDESTRIANS SAFETY.
This will be a real homage to Late Activist Gita Vir.
