Pune on way to becoming an Urban Disaster

Hi there all,

Why did you and I come to Pune and why do we continue to live in Pune? It is because the Quality of Life, Pune offered us was far, far better that any other city in India could offer us..

But all that is fast coming to an end. The  Draft Development Plan prepared by the Pune Municipal Corporation is a builders’ dream plan and a nightmare for the citizens..

Do you know what the Draft Development Plan will do in the next 20 years? :

• Any vacant plot in the city can be grabbed by the PMC ie even if it’s inside your society. So the green areas in your housing society are no longer safe. There will be some construction there shortly..
• Green areas will disappear. New roads will appear through Green Zones to facilitate large deluxe housing complexes. Hill Tops and Hill Slopes, Green Zones to be made into SEZs, IT Parks and Amusement Parks. This will mean a loss of green cover impacting Climate Change..
• All our water bodies ie Rivers, Nullahs and Lakes are systematically being reduced with plans to make roads on the river banks even though they come under the Flood line. Also, housing complexes will actually be allowed to be built on various water bodies..
• 4 FSI zone (ie double the max allowed today!) along the entire Metro corridor for half a kilometer on both sides – and most of the Elevated Metro corridor runs through the heavily congested area with massive traffic jams! So Pune will have huge buildings on both sides of the proposed Metro with other infrastructure remaining the same..
• 3 FSI for Cluster development in the city – entire blocks bulldozed for erecting new buildings. Further, 4 FSI for 4-star and 5-star hotels and private hospitals. More Buildings..
• Open/Recreational Spaces reduced. Where will children go to play?
• No provision for Low Income Housing – so slums will come up everywhere at random..
• The new Draft Development Plan is full of arbitrary and ad hoc proposals without any supporting studies or surveys..

Today we have problems of water supply, garbage management is a mess, our river is a sewer, traffic is already a nightmare now. And with the Draft Development Plan being imposed, Pune will be well on its way to become an urban disaster..

Do you want Our PUNE to become an URBAN DISASTER?

I heard you say a resounding "NO" from the bottom of your heart. In that case, let our objection to this Plan now be heard by the powers that be. Let us take our objections forward. And remember 26th June 2013 is the last day..
