It was on this day, that is *on 25th June, 1661, that Charles II
of England married Catherine of Braganza, the Princess of Portugal and got the
7 islands of 'Mombaym' as dowry.* He then leased 'Bombaim' to the East India
Company for an annual rent of 10 pounds. The rest, of course, is history.
