Mostar’s Stari Most (meaning "Old
Bridge") crosses the river Neretva and is actually a modern
reconstruction, after the original (finished in the 16th century) was destroyed
during the Croat-Bosniak war. The historic city of Mostar, which has recently
been restored and rebuilt, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its
architecture boasts a fascinating mix of pre-Ottoman, eastern Ottoman,
Mediterranean and western European influences.
