1966: China's Youth Cultural Revolution

In 1966, Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party Mao Zedong published a "Little Red Book” outlining his ideas for the Cultural Revolution. Students who joined the revolution, pictured here in this Getty photo were called Red Guards and worked to bring down Zedong's political foes.
