A trip to the last century!

1943: Warsaw Ghetto uprising

After Germany invaded Poland in 1939, more than 400,000 Jews were rounded up and placed in a 1-square-mile area of the city. By 1943, after witnessing the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Jews and the murders of countless others, the remaining ghetto residents staged an uprising. This photo was captured during the revolt as part of SS General Jürgen Stroop’s daily report to Heinrich Himmler, the Third Reich’s second-most powerful leader.
