Police seek to question man in NYC rice cooker bomb scare

hree abandoned devices that looked like pressure cookers prompted an evacuation of a major New York City subway station and closed off an intersection in another part of town Friday morning before police determined the objects were not explosives.
Police were looking to talk to a man seen on surveillance video taking two of the objects — which police identified as rice cookers — out of a shopping cart and placing them in a subway station in lower Manhattan. In a photo released by authorities, the young man is lugging a cooker into an elevator.

Captain hailed hero after bird strike disables Russian plane

The captain of a Russian passenger jet was hailed as a hero Thursday for landing his plane in a cornfield after it collided with a flock of gulls seconds after takeoff, causing both engines to malfunction. While dozens of people sought medical assistance, only one was hospitalized.
The event drew comparisons to the 2009 "Miracle on the Hudson," when a captain ditched his plane in New York's Hudson River after a bird strike disabled his engines.

Dow closes 800 points lower in worst day of 2019

Stocks plunged Wednesday, giving back Tuesday’s solid gains, after the U.S. bond market flashed a troubling signal about the U.S. economy.

The Dow lost 800 points, or 3%, to close at 2,5479, its biggest point decline of the year and its fourth-largest point drop of all time. The S&P 500 fell 85 points, or 2.9% to 2,840, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 3% to 7,773. The Dow has given up the entire rebound from a sell-off earlier in the month.

Chaos Grips Hong Kong’s Airport as Police Clash with Protesters

Anti-government protesters clashed with Hong Kong riot police on Tuesday, crippling the airport for the second straight day and targeting a potent symbol of the city’s position as a global center of commerce and finance that is essential to China.
The mass protests have forced the airport to suspend check-ins, creating long delays for passengers and forcing airlines to cancel hundreds of flights over the past two days. The disruptions were expected to continue through Wednesday.

After autopsy, cause of Jeffrey Epstein's death awaits 'further information'

The New York City medical examiner's office said Sunday that it had completed an autopsy of the financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein but that it needed more information before determining the cause of death.

Multiple people briefed on the investigation told NBC News that suicide remains the presumed cause of death and that no sign of foul play has emerged in the day and a half since Epstein, 66, was found unresponsive in his federal jail cell in lower Manhattan on Saturday.
