Tankers Attacked Again in Gulf of Oman, Raising Fears of Wider Conflict

Explosions disabled two tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, forced their crews to evacuate and left one vessel ablaze, a month after four tankers were damaged in the same area. The United States said the ships were attacked and blamed Iran, escalating tensions in a vital passageway for much of the world’s petroleum.
Hours after the two vessels were struck, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in Washington that intelligence reviewed by American officials showed that Iran was responsible. Mr. Pompeo did not present any evidence of Iran’s involvement.

America's CFOs are bracing for a 2020 recession

The longest economic expansion in modern American history could come to a screeching halt right before the 2020 presidential election.
At least that's what US finance leaders fear. Nearly half (48.1%) of chief financial officers in the United States are predicting the American economy will be in recession by the middle of next year, according to the Duke University/CFO Global Business Outlook survey released on Wednesday. And 69% of those executives are bracing for a recession by the end of 2020.

Hong Kong leader defiant as city gears up for fresh protests over extradition bill

Hong Kong's embattled leader Carrie Lam remained defiant on Tuesday, pledging to push ahead with a proposed extradition bill that would allow fugitives captured in Hong Kong to be sent to mainland China despite massive protests.
Lam spoke two days after the city was plunged into a fresh political crisis after hundreds of thousands took to the streets to thwart the proposed law, which has generated unusually broad opposition at home and abroad.
Hong Kong is gearing up for business strikes and fresh protests on Wednesday, when the bill is due to be put for debate in the city's 70-seat Legislative Council that is now controlled by a pro-Beijing majority.

Canada will ban single-use plastics from 2021, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday, declaring it a "global challenge" to phase out the plastic bags, straws and cutlery clogging the world's oceans.
"I am very pleased to announce that as early as 2021, Canada will ban harmful, single-use plastics from coast to coast," Trudeau said, arguing Canada has a unique chance to lead the fight against plastic pollution as the country with the world's longest coastlines.

Ashish Joshi's Wild Life Photography: I See You

I See You

I was roaming around outskirts of Pune in a scrubland, when I suddenly saw something peeping out of the stone wall.
On close check, to my surprise, it was a spotted owlet.
Seeing me approaching, the owlet went inside. I decided to wait patiently at a safe distance for him to come out.
After sometime, he peeped out to check if I am still around, giving me an opportunity to create the below image.
