Outside US, top scientists steer debate away from politics

President Donald Trump is never far from a public spat with his government’s top expert on the pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the most recent flare-up occurring this week over the pace of reopening schools.

Among U.S. allies, however, many leaders are happy to step away from the spotlight to leverage experts’ ability to counter misleading information and appeal across political boundaries to gain public compliance for health restrictions.

Ecuador

The Galápagos Islands comprise a volcanic archipelago that lies about 620 miles off Ecuador's Pacific coast. It's one of our planet's foremost destinations for viewing wildlife, particularly undersea wildlife. It even inspired Charles Darwin, in 1835, to come up with his theory of evolution. Here two spotted eagle rays swimming in blue water off of Wolf Island.

Over 1.5 Million People Have Recovered From Coronavirus Around the World

As cases of a new coronavirus climbed to more than 4.2 million on Wednesday, more than 1.5 million people were deemed to have recovered, according to a tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University.
Officials suspect the number of people who have recovered is higher than has been reported, as people with mild cases or those who were asymptomatic weren't ever tested. It's also possible recovered cases are "substantially lower" than the actual number because the Johns Hopkins' tracker pulls information for outside of China from estimates based on local media reports and available state and local reporting.

I told my boss three companies were after me and I needed a raise to stay at my job. We haggled for a few minutes and he gave me a 5 % raise.
Leaving his office, he stopped and asked me, “By the way, which companies are after you?” I responded, “The gas, electric and cable company.”

Renewed Covid-19 outbreaks in South Korea and China show the continued risk of reopening

"It's not over until it's over."

That was South Korean President Moon Jae-in, speaking Sunday after a new cluster of coronavirus cases emerged in the country's capital Seoul, sparking fear of a second wave of infections in the East Asian country.
South Korea was among the first places to deal with a major coronavirus epidemic, and seemed to be on track to loosen restrictions, after weeks of social distancing measures and careful surveillance. But the new cluster seems to have put an end to that, for now, with Moon warning his people "we must never lower our guard regarding epidemic prevention."
