Trump to enact $7.5 billion in tariffs on EU imports following WTO ruling

The Trump administration plans to enact new 10-25% tariffs on about $7.5 billion worth of European Union products starting on Oct. 18. The move follows a ruling Wednesday by the World Trade Organization that the EU had been subsidizing Airbus, giving the U.S. a significant victory in a 15 year-long legal fight over aviation subsidies.

Iraq curfews, shootings as 21 die in anti-government rallies

Iraqi security forces imposed a round-the-clock curfew in Baghdad and fired live rounds and tear gas on Thursday to disperse anti-government protests that have gripped the country since earlier this week, killing 21 people so far.
In a desperate attempt to quell the demonstrations, which were spontaneous and mostly spurred by woes over deteriorating economy and lack of jobs and services, authorities have cut internet access across much of Iraq.

Hong Kong Police Shoot a Protester, 18, With a Live Bullet for the First Time

A Hong Kong police officer on Tuesday shot a teenage demonstrator, the first time in months of protests that a live round was fired at a protester. The shooting capped an evening of violent protests, escalating the territory’s political crisis on the same day that the central government staged a huge military parade in Beijing to celebrate 70 years of Communist control.
The protesters in Hong Kong hoped to upstage Beijing’s celebrations by holding their own unauthorized marches. Violence quickly broke out, as demonstrators in districts across the city engaged in some of the bloodiest and most sustained clashes since protesters began taking to the streets in early June.

MOROCCO: Jemaa el-Fna Square in Marrakech

Traders are betting President Donald Trump will become the third president in U.S. history to be impeached.

The odds of Trump's impeachment during his first term by the House of Representatives spiked above 60% on Tuesday on prediction market PredictIt. That's up from just 24% before reports surfaced on Sept. 18 about whistleblower allegations.
Traders on the platform currently see only an 18% chance that the president will be removed from office by the Republican-controlled Senate.
Investors use prediction markets to get a real-time barometer on the likelihood of certain political events, everything from Brexit and the 2020 election to impeachment. And unlike polls, which operate with a lag, the prediction markets respond instantly as developments unfold.
"The odds can change after literally a phrase or a tweet. To investors, it's potentially hugely valuable," said Flip Pidot, senior market analyst at PredictIt.
The impeachment fight has dramatically ramped up activity on PredictIt. Hundreds of thousands of trades are made daily in the most active impeachment market, up from tens of thousands per day prior to the recent scandal.
