Family asks for stationery as offering during Ganeshotsav in Pune

While most people keep complaining about the wastage of food and excessive festivities during Ganeshotsav that only add eyeballs but don’t lend much significance, some have gone ahead and done something different to make the festival more meaningful.
Taking the lead is one family from Aundh, which has asked its guests visiting their home to take darshan of the idol with offerings as books, pencils, pens or any other stationery rather than eatables or flower garlands.
The initiative has been taken by Jignesh and Priya Karia, residents of Sindh Society who started the idea by messaging their friends and relatives a few days ago.
“Every festival we have been trying to reduce the unnecessary fanfare and instead do something meaningful for society as we think we owe to our future generations to set an example. So even on Diwali, rather than having a big puja, we went to an orphanage and celebrated there. This year, it was my husband and son Daiwik who suggested this idea to the family. Every year, we ask guests not to bring along any offerings, but they still end up doing it. So we decided to instead specify to them that we want them to bring stationery, be it a book or a pen,” says Priya.
The response, she says, has been heartwarming.
“It’s the first day, so we don’t know how much we would collect. But whatever we collect at the end of the festival, we have decided to double it with our contribution and give it to students of an orphanage or a municipal school,” she said.
The effect of this small effort has already started showing. One of Priya’s friends is Monica Arora, director of Beacon High School on Moshi’s Spine Road. “I thought why not educate the children of our school to follow this practice. Rather than taking sweets or flowers, why not take stationery as prasad. And that is why we held awareness lectures for students, making them realise the significance of this act. We have asked them to follow suit and also to spread the word to devotees around them,” says Arora.

u. BRT Full length corridor, and ALL announced bus stations must be BRT ready & operational before roll out.
(After 8 months even,Sangvi phata bus station not operational; Break in between BRT corridor, BRT buses use Service road).

२००० प्राणांतिक सह एसटी महामंडळाचे २५००० अपघाताचे अजब नियोजन ;अपघात सहायता निधी रूपाने २०० कोटी रुपयांची तिकीट दरवाढ प्रस्तावित !

Dear Sirs,

२००० प्राणांतिक सह एसटी महामंडळाचे २५००० अपघाताचे अजब नियोजन ;अपघात सहायता निधी रूपाने २०० कोटी रुपयांची तिकीट दरवाढ  प्रस्तावित  !
After unjust, profiteering fare hike during Diwali rush on hapless lakhs of bus commuters,ST has again announced  bus fare hike of Rs 200 crore from 1st April.
Strangely, its in the name of Accident Relief Fund.
No information given for present state of accidents and Compensation remitted in this regard.
Even the so called enhanced compensation paid, it will amount to planning for almost
2000 FATAL ACCIDENTS & 24000 ACCIDENTS WITH INJURED VICTIMS.
Its shameless to garner funds in the name of victimised commuters without any fault of theirs, many times its ST's own fault, to collect funds from their pockets,
Also record shows hardly 10-20 crorees may be paid that too after several months or even year.
The letter in Marathi is attached.
This warrants to change MSRTC LOGO FROM,

" IN SERVICE OF COMMUTERS" to "FOR OFFICERS & CONTRACTORS BENEFIT"
Hon CM & Hon Minister are requested to order 'SCRAP FARE HIKE PROPOSAL" urgently.

पीएमपी साठी वाढीव तरतूदी बद्दल आभार व अभिनंदन ! सातत्याने बस प्रवासी वाढ व सेवा सुधार या अटीवरच पीएमपीस मदत करावी !

Hon ComMisioner,Hon Mayor PMC/PCMC,Hon CMD & Directors PMPML,
Dear Sirs & Madam,

पीएमपी साठी वाढीव तरतूदी बद्दल आभार अभिनंदन ! सातत्याने बस प्रवासी वाढ सेवा सुधार या अटीवरच पीएमपीस मदत करावी !
Thanks for increased budget provision for PMPML.
PMC/PCMC have contributed thousands of crores in last few years inc 132 cr in 2014-15 as reimbursement of operational  losses,Also again now 90 cr paid.
However nothing at all is passed on to bus commuters. Total funds received are shared by contractors, officers & employees.
The support can only be for consistently increasing ridership & timebound bettermentin bus services.
On the contrary , on both counts, it has been deteriorating. A comparative chart is given in the representation letter attached, which shows with 76% fleet utilisation of 1586 buses in 2010 PMPML carried 11.59 lakhs commuters daily where as in 2015 with 2094 buses & 63 % fleet utilisation ridership reduced 10.85 lakhs daily; dropped by average 0.74 lakhs in absolute &
if scaled to increased bus fleet size BUS RIDERSHIP DROPPED ALARMINGLY BY 4.45 lakhs daily.
Further there is no improvement in bus service quality , but also has deteriorated on various areas.
To retain the grade of SMART CITY SELECTION, there is no better measure than cosistent increase in daily bus ridership,in line with  CPM or even better.
Hence we earnestly demand & request to सातत्याने बस प्रवासी वाढ सेवा सुधार या अटीवरच पीएमपीस मदत करावी !
Hon CMD,PMPML requested to ensure these objectives thru firm discipline & may be bitter decisions.
Thanks & Regards,

Catching Up

Lot of people need to catch up with lot of this as we already reach mid feb of new year 2016 which is a leap year. Let's hope we are able to manage that leap.
Firstly Modi government will need to catch up the promised dream of 'acche din'. It should  create jobs by capitalizing on steady economical parameters and low oil bills.  IT should Strengthen and substantiate slogans like Make in India, Start up India, Swatch Bharat , Smart Cities , Digital India and turn them into reality. Time is running out for reforms as markets seems to have lost patience in everything. Of course markets  work differently in this  global interconnected world. But then its high time for taking bitter pill of reforms and cut on subsidies. Not worry about politics and votes. Also need better PR machinery as deployed in 14 to make people sense about performance and governance. Good work done by minsters like Goyal,  Parrikar, Swaraj needs to be highlighted. Past establishment , corrupts and antinational will nevertheless would like to strike back with vengeance but still there are three years and a state lost here will be a collateral damage though we know it can  create problems further in upper houses.  There will be petty politics around emotional issues but Modi government needs to catch up on matters which really matter. This budget is very important.
Same is with Maharashtra state government. It should first decide who is ally and who is opposition.  Maharashtra politics is strange and first time we have seen some paradigm change. so it will take time to be really effective. But priority is correct anomalies and corruption in water distribution.  Make farming more scientific and all weather. Ease of doing business also needs some fine tuning. Planned Urban development and land shark control is priority.
Both at centre and state education policy needs revamp with creation of independent autonomous bodies to control quality and finances.
Pune as city as it heads for elections and having been selected as second smart city, needs  string decision making at executive level. I will put my neck out and say that we should undermine role of elected representatives who have in past failed people.
Indian cricket team also needs to catch up on may thing things apart from actual catching. They need to plan and be innovative to be able to lay its hands on asia and world t20 cups. On tests we need bowling unit capable to take wickets. BCCI is also running out of time to clean itself on everything.
Indian Olympics  Organization needs to really create environment to create winners at olympics levels but with only few months to go for Rio it seems we are running out there as well  unless for some individual brilliance. Time is also running out for euro teams to make mark at euro soccer.
Indian business propelled by relatively stable economy on global scale needs to innovate and capitalize on young populace , skilled work force, vast markets and all other inherent strengths to make it to next level. IT industry needs to focus on SMAC and work on new models with stringent visa rules in election year in US.
Having just listed areas of priorities for India to catch up on issues that really matter. Advice to past establishment is to do away with negativity and be a sensible nationalist opposition moved away from dynasty and naxalism. They still have role to correct government.
On Bollywood , art and entertainment (national and vernacular), let me advice them to catch up on entertaining people or making interesting  and meaningful films/plays/art/literature and leave politics to politicians.  There is lot to catch up.

Same applies to main stream media to be balanced on opinion making else they will become more irrelevant than they already are. Time also for social media to be more relevant.

Let's Reject Pune's Development Plan we need a Better Quality of Life

Hi there All,
Our tomorrows are being endangered…. And we say this with all seriousness.
The Draft DP for Pune has been submitted. If implemented, it will ruin Pune as we know it.
What do we need for a decent quality of life – gardens, parks, playgrounds for sports and for children, schools, hospitals, hawker zones, housing for economically weaker sections of society, etc. etc. Also necessities like parking areas, cremation and burial grounds, rehabilitation institutions for disabled people. Spaces for all these had been reserved - about 900 such reservations existed in the earlier Draft.
Now, with one stroke of the pen, 381 such reserved spaces totaling 450 + hectares, have been deleted.  And some of these are:
  • Gardens: 19; Parks: 15; River Development areas: 4; Nullah Gardens: 25.
  • Play ground for Children: 40; Play ground for sports etc: 44; Stadiums: 2; Lake for water sports: 1.
  • Primary Schools: 11; Hospitals/ Dispensaries: 18; Ota Market/ Hawkers Zones : 37.
  • Cultural Centres: 7; Youth Guidance Centres: 5; Rehabilitation Centre for Spastics: 1.
  • Parking: 46.
  • Crematoriums/ Burial grounds: 4.
Shocks you, doesn’t it?
Who could possibly benefit from this inhumane act? Yes, you got it right!
Oh yes, the DC rules have also been changed e.g. the Amenity space a builder had to give to the PMC to construct amenities, will now be for the builder to construct as he wishes. Do we need to say who will benefit?
Green Pune Movement is launching a campaign to collect signatures opposing this cruel change. We have to act quickly. We are writing to the Chief Minister asking him to reject this Development Plan. All your signatures will be appended to this letter. The more the signatures the more effect it will have. And we are very confident that Punekars will not just support but fight for a Development Plan which will improve the Quality of our lives.
We are attaching to this email a form for collecting signatures. You can download and print as many copies of the form for signatures.
We would like you to give us the first lot of signatures by the 2nd February 2016. (The 2nd lot by 8th February ’16 and the 3rd lot by 15th February ’16.) To make it easy for you to give us the collected signatures we have appointed collection points throughout the city. The list of collection centres is also attached.
So now let’s get going and collect lots and lots of signatures.  We know you can do it.
For a Green Pune, for a Pune which gives us a Great Quality of Life, for our Children and Grandchildren’s Future.
