1986: Shuttle Challenger
On Jan. 28, 1986, NASA’s Shuttle Challenger
exploded 73 seconds after launch. The tragedy took the lives of all seven
astronauts on board. Had the mission been successful, schoolteacher Christa
McAuliffe would have been the first civilian in space. The crew members are pictured
