2016: Zika virus
As
Brazil prepared to host the Olympic Games in 2016, an outbreak of the Zika virus was reported in
the city of Recife. As news outlets spread the news, a number of health officials called on the
government to postpone or cancel the
events. In contrast, the World Health Organization declared it safe to proceed. In this photo by Mario Tama, a mother holds
