The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
- Author name: Robert Louis Stevenson
- Date published: 1886
While
the twist of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novella “The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is well known by most people, the original book is still
well worth a read. It follows a London lawyer, John Gabriel Utterson, who is
determined to investigate a possible connection between his close friend Dr.
Henry Jekyll and Jekyll’s unlikely new associate, the evil Edward Hyde. The
book is made all the more chilling when we realize it is, at its core, about
how easily the evil inside of us can take control of our lives if we don’t keep
it in check.
