Great Barrier Reef,
Queensland, Australia
Located off the coast of Queensland in
northeast Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on
the planet. It is composed of over 2,900 individual reef and covers
roughly 135,000 square miles (350,000sq km), making it bigger than the UK,
Holland and Switzerland combined. It's so enormous, in fact, that it can be seen
from outer space. Despite environmental threats, it's teeming with marine
creatures – around 10% of the world's total fish species can be found within
the ancient reef alongside whales, dolphins, porpoises and dugongs.
