The Shambles, York, UK
Dating back to medieval times, The Shambles in York is known for its
beautifully preserved Elizabethan buildings with overhanging timber frames. A
narrow, cobbled lane, The Shambles was once a street full of butchers'
shops and you can still see the hooks and wide shelves on which they would
have displayed their produce. Today you'll find plenty of charming cafés and
boutique shops in their place.
