1990: Hubble Space Telescope

In 1990, NASA completed its longtime vision to put an orbiting telescope in outer space. The Hubble Space Telescope, the first major optical telescope, represented the "most significant advance in astronomy since Galileo's telescope." NASA released this image in 2015 to honor the 25th anniversary of the space observatory.
