story within a story, “The Shadow of the Wind” is believed to have sold more
than 15 million copies worldwide. Set in Barcelona in 1945, the book is about a
young boy named Daniel Sempere who’s obsessed with a book by an author named
Julian Carax. Realizing that his copy of the book may be one of the only Carax
novels in existence, Sempere sets out to uncover the truth behind the author’s
life and disappearance, as well as the systematic destruction of the
wordsmith’s work.
