The Golden Temple, Amritsar, India
The Golden Temple is
one of India's most holy and humbling sites, and among the world's most
beautiful places of worship. The 16th-century gilded temple appears to float
above the Amrit Sarovar (reflective pool), shimmering majestically in the holy
water. Known as one of the most revered sacred sites for Sikhs, the temple’s
inner sanctum houses the original copy of the holy book Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Typically, thousands of people make the pilgrimage to this extraordinary and
surprisingly serene place of worship in Punjab each year.
