Lake Titicaca, Bolivia and Peru
Ethereal Lake Titicaca
is South America's largest lake and the highest navigable one in the world at
12,506 feet (3,812m) above sea level. Sat on the border between Peru and
Bolivia, its startlingly blue waters are a truly spectacular sight against the
bright sky and snow-capped Andes. The lake is incredibly sacred too: the
ancient Incas believed it was the birthplace of the sun. Protected as part
of the Titicaca Nature Reserve, the lake’s resident wildlife includes wild
guinea pigs, Chilean pink flamingos and the Titicaca water frog.
